Nasty Snarey

Our first foray into percussion modules. Nasty Snarey grew out of a lingering disappointment with the weak and anemic sound of most analog snare modules. Seeking something fuller, richer and nastier, we scoured all the resources we could find; borrowed and robbed from better people to cobble together something closer to our hearts’ desire.

After we got there, we sat looking at that unused half of the LM13700 and thought “Well, that would be a waste not to find a use for this…”

And that’s when Plain Snarey became Nasty Snarey. A crushing VCA takes the clean snare output and runs it back through an overloaded VCA for seriously harsh percussion sounds.

Control over shell overtones, stick tone and mix, and snares (white noise) mix, plus decay. Separate CV control for the crushing VCA for gating and swelling effects.

Schematic

As with any schematic found on the internet, exercise caution when building. Test the build before plugging it into your case. If you find mistakes in the schematic, or you have recommendations for improving the design, feel free to contact us and let us know.
