We’re excited to announce that we have been given permission to republish the databending tutorial from the now-defunct Intelligent Machinery website. Originally published in 2010, this tutorial represents one of the very few introductions to audio databending techniques and includes overviews for altering audio files with common applications. The tutorial provides several starting points for your own databending explorations and provides audio samples to demonstrate how different media players’ interpretations of databent files play as much a role in the outcome as the databending itself.

We’re pleased to save this piece of audio manipulation history from the slow heat death that is internet entropy, and make it available for new generations of sonic explorers.
